It all started back 1918, a small business entrepreneur opened the doors to Van Nuys Awning. Over ninety years later, and four generations later Van Nuys Awning is still making custom canvas products for our residential, commercial and industrial clients. Thriving as one of California's largest manufacturers of residential and commercial awnings, patio umbrellas and cushions, marine canvas products, industrial canvas products and specialty metal products. In 1953, a true family business with 1,800 square feet, one employee, Mom Powell did the books, Dad Powell did the selling, son, Jimmie Powell ran the shop and son, Don Powell installed the awnings.

In the early 60's, Van Nuys Awning moved to a larger facility in downtown Van Nuys, with 11,000 square feet, eight employees and the Powell family. Our reputation for quality and service grew and so did we as our customers recommended us to friends and associates. By the early 70's, we added another facility to accommodate our growing marine canvas division; specializing in custom fitted boat covers and bimini tops.

In the mid-70's, we built and moved into our present facility a 20,000 square foot factory showroom located at 5661 Sepulveda Blvd., Van Nuys, CA. Today, the Powell family and it's 45 employees still stress the high quality and customer service that has made Van Nuys Awning one of the nations most highly respected awning companies.

Van Nuys Awning is a charter member of both WCPA-Western Canvas Products Association, PAMA-Professional Awning Manufacturers Association, and the IFAI-Industrial Fabrics Association International. Our owners have served on the Board of Directors of both organizations numerous times. These associations establish standards and guidelines for the industry. We are have been members of IFAI since 1958.
